Vacuum Hardware

Interaction Chamber

I designed and assembled a custom vacuum chamber in 2018 with custom dual coated anti-reflective windows in collaboration with my post-doc. I tested the chamber separately and saw that it could hold vacuum to 10E-8 Torr. I attached this chamber to the experiment where it was used for the both CaH cooling and BaH cooling. In addition, I wound air-cooled magnetic field coils that created a magnetic field magnitude of up to 10 gauss.

MOT Chamber

In the past months I have been designing the experiment's new MOT chamber in collaboration with my post-doc. We had to design a system capable of achieving UHV despite the flow of buffer gas into the trap chamber. We achieve UHV conditions by including differential pump pumping, before the chamber which itself is pumped on by a turbo pump and a titanium sublimation pump

Cryo Vacuum

I designed different panels for the room temperature shield of the 4K cryostat using SolidWorks. The panel shown includes a turbo immediately next to the beam-pipe aperture. This solved a pressure build up issue that was destroying the beam of molecules as they propagated toward the interaction region.

General Maintenance

Throughout my years at ZLab, I had to perform regular maintenance on our vacuum pumps. This included replacing tip seals, calibrating pressure gauges, and performing leak checks using an Residual Gas Analyzer (RGA).
